Talia Smith and Leilani Heather

What happens when you meet your real-life double? Photographers Talia Smith and Leilani Heather met while studying together at Unitec and discovered that not only were their photographic interests similar, they were they often mistaken for one another by their classmates and even their closest friends occasionally got them mixed up. Single brown femaletakes this chance convergence as a start-point from which to generate work exploring their individual identities and photographic practices in relation to a similar other. The project seeks to identify similarities, differences and mutual influences generated between two artists with similar photographic interests, age, cultural heritage and physical appearance.
